Joking aside, I always thought if you are socially liberal and fiscally conservative ipso facto you are a Libertarian.
It is not that simple obviously. More later….
While I am on a rant about labels, I have thoughts about the major parties.
The Republicans have lost the Label War a long time ago. The Left is more astute than the Right in the war of words. Republicans are stuck on stupid in this war.
If the Left is Progressive, then the Right has to be Regressive.
If the Right is Conservative, then the Left is Liberal .i.e. fun, openminded.
The Right does nothing to counter this and in fact repeat these labels implicitly reinforcing them.
The label “Conservative” has to go. Toss it into the garbage bin of politics.
Why you ask? “Conservative” It reinforces the inference that the Right is regressive.
When people hear “Conservative” they think that you want to go back to the 1950s. Black and White TV. Prudish sexual mores. NO FUN. The NO FUN PARTY, is the subconscious thought in the mind of many. Very clever of the Left.
I have less problem with Republican Constitutionalist. The label Constitutionalist, would be very difficult to twist into a negative connotation.
What do you do if you re called a RACIST? You can say, “Yes I am a Real American Constitutionalist Inimical to Spending and Taxes.
